“Implementing Calira's equipment scheduling software helped us improve our equipment usage and planning processes within our teams. Calira helps our researchers save time by planning their experiments more efficiently and being informed of all equipment-related information as soon as it’s available. The system is also handy for me to have oversight of the utilization of our instruments.” - Solveig Pettersen, Head of Laboratory and EHS at Nykode Therapeutics

Lab profile

  • Type of lab - a leading clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company
  • Location - Oslo, Norway

Founded in 2006 in Oslo, Norway, Nykode Therapeutics is a leading clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company unlocking unlimited possibilities for the future of medicine. Their bold aim is to generate game-changing therapeutics to treat cancers and infectious diseases with a high unmet medical need.

In addition, Nykode Therapeutics has developed its core technology - the Vaccibody™ platform, which is based on the concept of targeting antigens to Antigen Presenting Cells to create better vaccines.

Requirements

Before implementing Calira's lab equipment scheduling system, lab members at Nykode Therapeutics needed a more structured and defined process when planning their equipment usage and gaining access to the instruments. Housing a wide range of scientific instruments meant the company had to be cautious about giving equipment access to untrained users. In addition to managing instrument access, proper utilization of equipment was key for companies like Nykode Therapeutics.

Solution

To equip their researchers with a tool to plan their equipment usage in a time-saving way and to ensure only trained users have access to sensitive instrumentation as well as to monitor the usage data, Nykode Therapeutics implemented Calira.

With Calira in place, they were able to restrict access and assign custom rules for their lab members. Assigning instrument access to users also ensured a smooth and straightforward booking process that helped avoid clashing schedules among researchers.

Monitoring usage data collected on Calira and utilizing the easy-to-use reporting function helped make informed decisions on instrument maintenance and the research capacity of the lab. This led to improved processes and workflows that helped contribute to speeding up and adequately documenting the entire R&D process.
